As I've posted before, we started a little experiment in vermicomposting over a year ago. Our little worm farm has been very successful, producing a big bucket of castings that nourished our garden plants. We still feed them our kitchen scraps.
My stepson's class is currently learning about farming, and we had the opportunity to take our worm farm into the school so that he could show it off to his classmates and teach them how worm composting works. It was so much fun!
Bill and L gave a little mini lesson, and then we passed around a jar of worm castings for the children to see and smell up close (sounds gross, but worm poop actually doesn't smell gross at all, it smells like good earthy clean dirt). The children also had a chance to see the worms up close and feed them some food scraps. Then L stood at the front of the class and answered questions. He was so cute! We could tell he really enjoyed being the center of his classmates' attention. The kids had really adorable questions (do worms make babies? Who was the very first worm that was ever born? Teehee).
What a fun time!
